Common Failures
- Unit runs but the air is barely cool — low charge, restricted airflow, or a failing compressor
- Outdoor fan spins but the compressor will not start (usually a capacitor, sometimes a hard-start issue)
- Ice on the refrigerant lines or the indoor coil — airflow or charge problem, and running it that way damages the compressor
- Breaker trips when the condenser kicks on
- Water around the indoor unit — plugged condensate drain, which is the cheapest fix on this list
- Loud grinding or screeching from the outdoor unit

- Superheat and subcooling — the only honest way to know if the charge is right
- Static pressure and airflow across the coil before touching refrigerant
- Capacitor values under load, contactor condition, compressor amp draw
- Electronic leak detection when the charge is low, so we can point at the actual leak

Why It Matters

My AC is low on refrigerant. Can you just add some?
We can, and sometimes that is the right call on an older unit you are planning to replace anyway. But we will find the leak first and tell you what you are buying, so it is your decision and not a surprise next June.
Is it worth repairing an older AC?
Depends on the refrigerant it uses, the cost of the failed part, and the condition of the compressor and coil. We will give you the number for the repair and the number for replacement, and you choose.
Why is my AC freezing up?
Almost always restricted airflow (dirty filter, blocked return, failing blower) or low charge. Turn it off, let it thaw completely, then get it looked at — running a frozen system risks the compressor.
